Work Experience - Why I Sought Certification
I have worked for a local Saddlery now for 6 years. During my time I have loved sharing the knowledge that has been imparted to me through my various years involved with horses. I am by no means a fantastic competition rider with many titles to my name but I have been privileged enough to gain a wonderful education on many aspects of being an equestrian and if I can help a person or horse, that is willing to work with me, I get a massive kick out of it.
The Saddlery has provided me with a way to help people with their choices and to help solve their problems. Early on, it became very apparent to me that one of the most important and expensive purchases to be made, when buying equipment is the saddle and that this purchase can often be a harrowing experience, with very grey areas associated with it. It also became apparent that seeking the help of a trained professional here, is often quite difficult. The apparent lack of certified people to help with this purchase became very obvious and is the reason I have gone to get unbiased tuition which has lead to my certification in saddle fitting.
I believe saddle fit is one of the most important aspects to get right in any equine partnership. It is a massive contributing factor to whether the horse and rider are comfortable in their work, which is ultimately vital to how successful they are in any given discipline. As a result of this belief, I have sought a professional and extremely experienced man, Mike Scott, to train me in all aspects of the field, from gait analysis and equine anatomy, through to practical assessment of the tack both static an in motion and finally form, function and maintenance of the saddle itself.
