Training and Certification

Experienced & Trained in the United States.

I have been working towards my Certification in Saddle Fitting for the past 12 months, completing my training in March 2014 with the final practical, written, anatomy and presentation examinations which I underwent in the United States. The certification process has included two trips to the USA to study under Mike Scott, a certified saddle fitter and massage therapist of 30 years experience. The course has included 250 hours of course and practical time which I have completed both under his personal guidance in the U.S. and extramurally with work here in NZ.

This work includes:

I have been fortunate enough to work with fabulous horses and people alike throughout the certification process and would like to thank everyone who has been involved, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all of you.

Eleanor Whitehead has successfully completed the English Saddle Fitting and Flocking Course in Camden SC USA. Her dedication to clients and details have given her passing grades of the highest level.

In the course, the student must complete 30 cases studies. 3 which are tracked several times throughout the length of the program. In addition to this, they must volunteer 30 hours at a non profit organization such as a therapeutic riding program, mounted police unit, 4h or pony club etc. The student also needs to complete 45 hours of internship with a qualified saddler or saddle fitter. Much of the course revolves around the sound principals of saddle fitting, addressing issues with the saddle, correcting them or assisting the client in the right direction of finding a suitable saddle.

Another valuable requirement is the thorough understanding of anatomy. Throughout the program, origins, insertions, actions and nerve innervation are discussed. This coupled with an emphasis on kinesiology assures the client of a knowledgable fitter. Lastly, a written and verbal presentation are given on an assigned topic as well as a written and practical exam. Eleanor has completed all of the above requirements successfully and in the highest regard. She will no doubt be an asset to the equine community in New Zealand.
